Ready for Anything: Prepared, Protected, Empowered!

Have you ever heard the phrase “expect the unexpected”? While it may sound cliché, this saying rings true when preparing for unanticipated natural disasters or emergencies. At Hope Home Care, we are dedicated to serving our community and helping you take proactive steps to stay safe. Here are some key measures to help you prepare for the unexpected:

  1. Store essential information in a secure yet easily accessible location. This includes emergency contact numbers, nearby shelter addresses, and a list of your current medications and doses. Additionally, keeping a paper map on hand can be invaluable in case digital tools fail.
  2. Keep all of your important documents in one secure location. Using plastic sleeves can help protect them from wear and tear, ensuring they remain in good condition when needed. You want them to be accessible at a moment’s notice, making organization important for document storage.
  3. Prep a To-Go-Kit if you need to leave your home without a lot of notice. The contents of your To-Go-Kit will depend on your specific needs, but here are some essential items to consider including:
  • Backup portable charger
  • Charger for phone
  • One change of clothes
  • 10-14 day’s supply of essential medications
  • Equipment for mobility (ex. wheelchair) and medical needs
  • Cash

4. Prep a Stay-at-Home kit that would serve to keep you afloat for a few days if you were to lose power or other utilities.

Here are some suggestions of what to pack:

  • A charged at-home power generator
  • 10-14 day’s supply of essential medications
  • A few changes of clothes
  • Non-perishable foods (canned meat, beans, fruits)
  • Can opener
  • Water (one gallon per person per day for several days, for drinking and sanitation)
  • Pet food (if you have pets)
  • First-aid kit (band-aids, rubbing alcohol wipes, gauze)
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
  • Extra batteries

It may feel daunting to tackle natural disaster preparation, but Hope Home Care is here to alleviate the stress and support you through turbulent times. Hope Home Care continuously monitors flood zones for every patient and promptly communicates any need for additional precautions. Patient care is our highest priority. Hope Home Care staff inform patients about their evacuation zones and nearby shelters. Caregivers annually review evacuation protocols and are prepared to assist their patients as needed.
