Caring for a loved one comes from a place of love and commitment. But if you are a family caregiver, you already know how heavy that responsibility can feel. Managing medical appointments, medications, and daily needs while also balancing your own health, work, finances, and family life is no small task. It is a lot to carry, and no one should have to carry it alone.
That is exactly why we created the Family Caregiver Support Program: to ensure that caregivers in our community know that support is available, accessible, and designed with them in mind.
A Program Built Around Caregivers
Through this program, family caregivers can connect to a wide range of supports, including:
-
Emotional and mental health resources
-
Respite services to allow time to rest and recharge
-
Education and training related to specific health conditions
-
Care coordination and guidance navigating complex systems
-
Financial guidance and benefit navigation
Our role is to help caregivers find the right support at the right time. Whether you need someone to talk to, practical tools to feel more confident providing care at home, or help connecting to trusted community resources, we are here to guide you in the right direction.
Stronger caregivers lead to safer care, healthier households, and greater peace of mind for families. By connecting caregivers to trusted local programs, social work guidance, and skill-building opportunities, we help reduce stress, prevent burnout, and bring balance back into everyday life.
Why Caregivers Matter So Much
Not only are family caregivers are not just helping hands, they are a critical part of the healthcare system.
The state of New York has recognized the essential role that family caregivers play, providing unpaid support while often juggling work, parenting, and their own health needs. The New York State Department of Health has emphasized the importance of caregiver education, emotional and mental health support, respite opportunities, and community-based services in helping prevent hospitalizations and support individuals aging safely at home.
Support Right Here in Our Community
Caregiver support does not exist in isolation. It exists within a network.
Across Staten Island, community-based organizations offer education, wellness programming, support groups, and social connection for caregivers and older adults. These programs help reduce isolation, build confidence, and ensure families can access reliable services close to home.
In addition, across New York City, the Department for the Aging and other community partners continue to expand access to caregiver support groups, workshops, wellness initiatives, and behavioral health connections. These efforts reinforce a simple but powerful message: taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of someone you love.
You Do Not Have to Do This Alone
Reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness. It is a step toward sustainability.
